    What promises to be next year’s Oscar contender is the motion picture Selma, led by multiple Oscar nominated filmmaker Lee Daniels (Precious, Monster’s Ball). This follow up to Precious tells the stirring story of the Selma March led by Dr. Martin Luther King and his influence on President Lyndon B. Johnson to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965. An inspiring tale about leadership and civil rights, Paul Webb’s fascinating script treats Dr. King, LBJ, and the other historical figures as real people, rather than as historical icons. In particular, we get a glimpse of Dr. King’s unique qualities both as a charismatic leader as well as an ordinary man with personal failings alongside his brilliance and strength. With courage and urgency, the Selma marchers, led by King, accomplished the impossible by overcoming inertia and the status quo to transform society and extend freedom.

    The cast includes Liam Neeson as LBJ, Hugh Jackman as Sheriff Clark, Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Abernathy, Ray Winstone as J. Edgar Hoover, and the up-and-coming British actor David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King.

    The film will be directed by Lee Daniels. The producing team includes Academy Award winning producer Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire) Brad Pitt (Plan-B Entertainment), filmmaker Dror Soref and financier Michelle Seward (Skyline Pictures) and Academy Award winner, Harvey Weinstein.

    The film will be distributed in North America by The Weinstein Company, and internationally by Pathé.
