Inspired by Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist, this new and original American interracial musical is set in New Orleans during the Prohibition Era. Twist tells the story of a young mulatto boy, born of a mother from a white aristocratic Southern family and a black vaudeville performer, who is orphaned soon after his birth. Strengthened by his parents’ legacy of love, Twist embarks on an adventurous journey and triumphantly overcomes adversity to find his destiny.

The book was written by William F. Brown, who wrote the Tony Award winning Broadway hit, The Wiz.

The music was co-written by Grammy nominated composer/producer, Tena Clark, and composer Gary Prim. Clark also wrote the lyrics. Among the iconic recording artists for whom Clark has written and/or produced are Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, and Patti Austin, to name a few.

Twist is directed by Emmy Award Winning Director/Choreographer, Debbie Allen. It was premiered at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, GA on September 15, 2010 to standing ovation and rave reviews. It was staged at the Pasadena Playhouse in 2011, to an extended run.
